The CCA will be hosting a Drinks Reception at Party Conference in The Midland Hotel. Tickets cost £10 for CCA Members and £12 for non-CCA members. A flyer has been included with the latest issue of @cca.voice magazine if you would like to purchase tickets. This event is within the secure Conference zone, so a Party Conference Pass will be required to attend.

This seminar is aimed at Finance Portfolio Holders but is open to anyone wishing to further develop their understanding of local government finance. The seminar will be led by Cllr Melvyn Caplan, Finance Cabinet Member for Westminster City Council. Topics covered will include the budgeting process, the legal framework, and relationships with other precepting authorities. There will also be the opportunity to share best practice and ask questions.

The CCA is holding an online campaigning training session with the aim of providing practical online training for those with elections in May 2014. This will enable Conservative candidates and councillors to have an important online presence ahead of polling day. The day will look at general online campaigning, editing your own yourcllr.com website and creating a twitter account.

The CCA is holding a Public Speaking Course for Councillors in conjunction with The Roe Project at CCHQ, London. The training course is delivered by professional trainer Dilwyn Scott and will look at how to deliver a presentation, how to make an impact and dealing with difficult questions. The training day costs £80, including lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

The New Councillors Training Day at CCHQ, London, will consist of a series of presentations by those with a wide experience of local government and the Conservative Party. There will be sessions on understanding the Council and your role as a councillor, your online presence and Social Action. The day costs £5, including lunch. The CCA and LGA Conservative Group have set up a meeting between Conservative Group Leaders and Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, and the DCLG Ministers at Local Government House. This is an opportunity for Group Leaders to raise any questions you may have, to learn more about local government plans for the next year, and to engage with your colleagues.

Following feedback from Stage I of the public speaking courses, the CCA and the Roe Project have arranged a Stage II programme, which will only be open to those who have completed Stage I. This course will be held at CCHQ. This advanced programme will develop the skills learnt in Stage I and give participants the opportunity to apply them to a variety of scenarios faced by councillors, including a debate/public meeting, media interviews and giving a speech. The course costs £80 and includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
